OPPO has published its latest white paper on 6G, titled “A Versatile 6G with Minimized Kernel: To Build the Mobile World.” The paper presents an innovative approach to the next generation of mobile communication systems, which involves modularizing 6G capabilities and splicing different capability modules based on specific scenarios to create a more adaptable and efficient network. By converging masses of devices and networks, this approach aims to provide a more actionable solution for the future of mobile communication systems.
The next generation of mobile communication systems, 6G, aims to bring enhanced intelligence to connectivity.
OPPO envisions a truly mobile world enabled by 5G and 6G technology. The integration of AI technology into communication networks will be a key direction for the development of 6G, enabling networks to rapidly transmit and deploy a vast set of AI models. These models will include AI agents that will act as intermediaries to help people manage and control physical objects through digital twins constructed in the virtual world. This will advance the Internet of Things from a series of connected devices to a series of converged devices operating as part of intelligent networks, facilitating communication between the virtual and real worlds. The proposed role of 6G is to realize the interconnection and convergence of these two worlds, forming the basis for the metaverse and a truly mobile world.
The proposed “versatile 6G system with minimized kernel” is designed to cater to the diverse requirements of 6G technology.
OPPO has proposed a design idea for 6G called “the versatile 6G system with minimized kernel” to realize its vision for a truly mobile world. The design consists of a “minimized 6G kernel” that provides shared capabilities such as native AI, spectrum sharing, and security, as well as multiple “6G subsystems” optimized for different capabilities such as Clouding, Critical IoT, Ubiquitous IoT, and Sensing. The subsystems can be combined and switched on-demand through AI to meet the diverse demands of different applications. The new security structure requires the establishment of a multi-party trust model and endogenous security with intelligent security to protect a wide range of service data, while flexible spectrum management and sharing use blockchain technology to improve spectrum utilization efficiency.
Through its investment in 6G research, OPPO is at the forefront of the next generation of communication technology.
OPPO has been at the forefront of 6G technology research since 2019, focusing on new device form factors, user-centric designs, and key research areas such as AI and wireless communications, zero-power communication technology, and the integration of communications and sensing. Through active participation in systems verification, technology research, and standardization, OPPO is driving the development of technologies related to its 6G research interests and engaging with standardization organizations such as ITU, 3GPP, CCSA, IMT-2030 Promotion Group, and FuTURE Forum. In addition to bringing 5G to more users globally, OPPO will continue exploring the possibilities of cutting-edge 6G technology to create a truly mobile world. Visit OPPO’s booth in Hall 3, Stand 3M10, at the Fira Gran Via, Barcelona, from February 27 to March 2, 2023, to witness their showcase of prototype devices for 6G technology applications.
