Global automotive technology leader BorgWarner has announced that it has secured a strategic contract to supply its next-generation 7-in-1 Integrated Drive Module (iDM) to a leading Chinese original equipment manufacturer (OEM). Exclusively developed for the automaker’s upcoming hybrid SUV platform, the high-efficiency iDM is set to enter mass production in 2026, marking a significant milestone in BorgWarner’s commitment to advancing electrified mobility in the Chinese market.
Revolutionary 7-in-1 Integration for Hybrid Efficiency
The 7-in-1 iDM brings together multiple core propulsion functions within a single, compact system architecture — combining two electric motors that leverage BorgWarner’s patented high-voltage hairpin winding technology, a dual inverter with integrated on-board charger (OBC), DC-DC converter, battery voltage boost, vehicle control unit (VCU), power distribution unit (PDU), and an eGear transmission. This high level of functional integration enhances overall system performance, minimizes packaging space, and reduces weight — enabling superior energy efficiency and power density for hybrid applications.
Performance, Scalability, and Advanced Engineering
The advanced module supports power requirements up to 160 kW and operates at a peak voltage of 450V, while delivering peak drive torque exceeding 3,400 Nm and achieving a maximum speed of 1,350 r/min. Each component within the system is designed for scalability, giving automakers flexibility to adapt the module across multiple vehicle platforms and performance ranges.
Driving Electrification and Innovation in China’s NEV Market
Leveraging its deep expertise in electrified propulsion and full-stack in-house capabilities across e-motors, power electronics, and transmission systems, BorgWarner continues to deliver tailored, high-performance solutions to meet evolving customer demands. The company’s strong technical capabilities, proven product reliability, and collaborative partnerships with OEMs reinforce its leadership in accelerating the transition toward cleaner, more efficient mobility solutions.
Supporting the Future of Sustainable Mobility
With this latest contract win, BorgWarner further strengthens its position as a trusted technology partner in the rapidly expanding Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) market, supporting the nation’s drive toward sustainable transportation and next-generation hybrid innovation.
“Our component and system expertise puts us in an ideal position for developing a highly efficient and customised iDM architecture for our customers’ hybrid application,” said Dr Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager, BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems. “We’re proud to be supplying our technology to such a prominent manufacturer in this region.”
