Dana India has successfully concluded a series of impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects in Satara, Maharashtra, aimed at addressing water management, enhancing agricultural productivity, and fostering environmental sustainability. These initiatives highlight Dana India’s commitment to driving sustainable development in rural communities, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Pond Rejuvenation in Degaon Village
A cornerstone of the CSR efforts was the rejuvenation of a pond in Degaon village, coupled with repairs to address leakages. Through de-siltation, the project expanded the pond’s water storage capacity to 7.5 million liters, ensuring clean water access for nearly 5,000 residents and 1,000 cattle. This initiative directly supports SDG Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, and Goal 15: Life on Land, by improving water availability and supporting the local ecosystem.
Contour Canal Irrigation in Chalkewadi Village
Dana India also implemented a Contour Canal Irrigation system in Chalkewadi village, enabling year-round irrigation for 90 hectares of farmland. This system benefits around 1,000 villagers and 500 cattle, reducing soil erosion and ensuring access to safe drinking water for livestock. By supporting sustainable agricultural practices, the project aligns with SDG Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and Goal 15: Life on Land.
Commitment to Rural Empowerment
Gajanan Gandhe, Country Head and Vice President of Dana India, emphasized the importance of these initiatives: “At Dana India, we are committed to addressing the challenges faced by rural communities and their livestock. Our initiatives focus on optimizing water resources and implementing sustainable solutions to mitigate the impact of droughts and irregular rainfall. By supporting agriculture and reducing soil erosion, we aim to create a lasting positive impact while ensuring access to safe water for both villagers and their cattle.”
Driving Long-Term Impact
Dana India’s CSR efforts demonstrate its dedication to empowering rural communities through sustainable solutions. These projects not only address critical challenges like water scarcity and soil degradation but also contribute to the resilience of local ecosystems and agricultural productivity.
By prioritizing meaningful CSR programs, Dana India continues to position itself as a leader in advancing sustainable development in Maharashtra and beyond, creating a model for corporate responsibility that delivers lasting benefits to communities and the environment.
