In a groundbreaking collaboration, Etisalat by E& and Huawei recently announced the successful completion of the world’s first trial featuring 1.6Tbps per wavelength technology on an optical transport network. This achievement represents a significant milestone in the ultra-high-speed optical industry.
This successful trial underscores Etisalat by E&’s preparedness for transmission technologies aimed at the 100T network platform for hyperscale cloud computing. It also aligns with the ambitious 10 Giga UAE Initiative, which seeks to provide 10 Gbps connectivity to individuals, homes, and enterprises.
As a pioneer in the optical industry, Etisalat by E& continues to lead with advanced innovative solutions and early adoption of cutting-edge technology. The 1.6Tbps per wavelength technology, tested in collaboration with Huawei, is a strategic move to establish the most advanced and robust network infrastructure in the UAE.
Specifically, the trial demonstrates the capabilities of achieving 1.6Tbps on the DC-centric OSN 9800 Kepler platform. This advancement not only addresses the growing demand for capacity from cloud-based business services, enhanced home broadband, and 5G services but also reduces per-Gbit power consumption by an impressive 65% compared to current industry platforms. This reduction establishes a strong foundation for modern digitalization and contributes to a more environmentally friendly future.
