YouTube consistently experiments with novel functionalities, many of which eventually become official for all users. Soon the users will be able to identify songs by humming. The latest experimental venture by the tech giant revolves around enhancing its search capabilities by assisting users in identifying songs when they’re unaware of the track’s name. Here’s a glimpse into what the popular video-streaming platform has in store.
Testing a Fresh YouTube Feature
According to insights from YouTube’s support page, an ongoing test is centered on a feature designed to help users discover a song by humming it. Moreover, if you find yourself in a situation where a song plays in the background but its title eludes you, you can record the snippet and leverage this feature to retrieve its name. If this concept sounds familiar, it’s reminiscent of functionalities present in apps like Shazam, an entity owned by Apple.
To harness this feature, users are required to tap the microphone icon adjacent to the search bar. Subsequently, they can either record the playing song or hum it for a minimum of 3 seconds, enabling YouTube’s voice search to identify the track. Upon successful recognition, users will be presented with the official song content and possibly relevant videos or Shorts posted by fellow users within the YouTube app.
At present, this feature is part of a testing phase encompassing selected Android users on a global scale. There’s no specified timeline for when it might extend to all users, including those on iOS. Additionally, the accuracy and reliability of this feature remain under scrutiny – whether YouTube can adeptly discern between songs or hummed melodies to yield accurate outcomes.
