Google Pay has recently introduced support for UPI LITE, allowing users to make quick and seamless UPI transactions with just a single click, eliminating the need to enter the UPI PIN. UPI LITE, which was introduced by the Reserve Bank of India in September 2022, streamlines the UPI transaction process and is facilitated by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
The LITE account is connected to the user’s bank account, but it operates independently of the issuing bank’s core banking system in real time. This ensures higher transaction success rates, even during periods of high transaction volumes.
With UPI LITE, users can add up to INR 2000 twice a day, totaling INR 4000 within a 24-hour period. Each transaction can be made for up to INR 200. Utilizing UPI Lite also leads to a more streamlined bank passbook with fewer transaction details, reducing clutter.
How to activate UPI Lite on Google Pay?
- Open the Google Pay app and navigate to your profile page.
- Tap on the option to activate UPI LITE.
- Follow the linking process to connect your UPI LITE account.
- After successful linking, you will be able to add funds up to INR 2000 to your UPI LITE account, with a maximum daily limit of INR 4000.
- For transactions valued at INR 200 or less, the UPI LITE account will be selected by default, provided there is sufficient balance.
- To complete the transaction, simply tap on “Pay PIN-Free.”
- Currently, 15 banks support UPI LITE, and more banks are expected to join in the coming months. Supported banks include AU Small Finance Bank, Axis Bank, Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Indian Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, State Bank of India (SBI), South Indian Bank, and Union Bank.
Please note that the availability and supported banks may vary depending on your location and updates from Google.
